LEAVING
Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney)
When is Cassie Plummer leaving? Summer 2026.
Actress Claire Sweeney has confirmed that she will be leaving the role of Tyrone’s scheming mother and Steve’s girlfriend, Cassie Plummer, in the coming months.
Sweeney will be leaving the show to join the cast of the UK and Ireland tour of Annie to play Miss Hannigan.
Radio Times understands that ITV bosses have known about the actress’s departure from the soap for a while now and that they already have a big storyline planned for the character’s exit.
A Coronation Street spokesperson said: “We wish Claire every success playing Miss Hannigan and congratulate her on being offered a role she has long wanted to play.
“Cassie will be on the cobbles until the summer during which time she will continue to make her presence felt in Weatherfield leading up to a great exit storyline.”
Will Cassie leave the Street on bad terms?
Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney)
When is Debbie Webster leaving? 2027.
Actress Sue Devaney is being written out of the show as her fan-favourite character Debbie Webster is due to be killed off in a long-running dementia storyline.
Devaney first appeared as 15-year-old Debbie Webster and starred in the role for one year before returning to the soap in 2019, and has been a main cast member since 2020.
A source told Metro: “It’s one of the show’s biggest storylines of the year, and a real chance for Sue to finally get her time in the spotlight – it will just be devastating for fans that it will effectively be her final storyline.”

They added: “It’s one of many major storylines new boss Kate Brooks has in the bag, and there will not be a dry eye in the house.
“There is no doubt in the Corrie family that she will give the performance of a lifetime and make Debbie’s exit one to remember for years.”
The report also revealed that the character of Debbie was expected to stay in the show beyond 2025 to complete the long-running storyline, so there is plenty of Debbie still to come on-screen.
The storyline was later confirmed by ITV and actress Sue Devaney, who revealed in June 2025 that she would still be on the soap until at least 2027.
JOINING
Idris Nazir (Junade Khan)
When is Idris arriving? May 2026.
Former Game of Thrones actor Junade Khan is joining the soap as Alya Nazir’s cousin, Idris.
The charming new arrival will also be a new love interest for Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson), who was previously in a romance with Alya’s father, Kal Nazir.
Producer Kate Brooks said: “He’s a savvy kind of business guy, he’s got a bit of a ruthless streak, he’s not ready to get his hands dirty slightly, but he can charm the birds from the trees.
“He’s a new love interest for Leanne. The attraction is instantaneous. It kind of gives Leanne a new lease of life, somewhat. She’s been harbouring a deep-rooted resentment towards Toyah and Nick, because that’s the life she had.
“This guy comes along, he’s got it all, he makes her laugh. He’s funny, he’s a handsome chap, and he ruffles a lot of feathers, but he’s not without an edge. He’s not soft, and he’s certainly no pushover.
“He butts heads with some of our more alpha kind of characters quite early on.”
Ross (Ian Burfield)
When is Ross arriving? Summer 2026.
Former The Bill and EastEnders actor Ian Burfield is joining Coronation Street in the role of Tyrone Dobbs’s biological father, Ross.
Coronation Street boss Kate Brooks said that Ross will be involved in “explosive” scenes and that he’ll have a big part to play in the exit of Tyrone’s birth mother, Cassie.
“Tyrone’s dad makes an appearance in the show. Needless to say, he comes with quite a bit of drama, and it’s going to cause quite a lot of friction within that family, obviously with Cassie’s history,” added Brooks.
“It will contribute to [Cassie’s] exit, which is going to be massive and quite explosive. It’ll be full of all the twists and turns that you can come to expect from an exit.”
