The works will be carried out by Merton Council, TfL and a host of utility providers
Merton residents will be relieved to hear some of the borough’s most potholed roads are set to be resurfaced, with the full list of planned works for 2026/27 now released.
As well as full road resurfacing, there are various types of improvement works planned over the next 10 months.
Local utility providers, including Thames Water, SGN, UK Power Networks, and EE, will be conducting essential gas, water, power, and telecom maintenance throughout the summer and beyond.
Additionally, Merton Council is leading numerous carriageway resurfacing projects across Mitcham, Morden, Raynes Park, and Wimbledon, while Transport for London (TfL) and Network Rail will be undertaking key transport upgrades, signage connections, and level crossing maintenance in areas like Colliers Wood and Raynes Park.
Here is a full list of upcoming works by area:
Colliers Wood
- A42 and A238 Merton High Street and High Street Colliers Wood: Lane closures will be in place from Priory Road to Blackshaw Road to enable upgrades to traffic lights, pedestrian islands, cycling infrastructure, and line markings from September 7 to November 20.
- Robinson Road: A road closure at the junction with High Street Colliers Wood is scheduled from July 6 to July 10 to enable ducting and connections for signage.
Mitcham
- Bennetts Close: A road closure for carriageway resurfacing will take place from August 19 to August 21.
- Carshalton Road: A night-time road closure from Cranmer Road to Croydon Road for carriageway resurfacing is scheduled from July 6 to July 7.
- Church Road: Multi-way lights will be active between Hallowfield Way and Vicarage Gardens for gas mains replacement from August 3 to August 24,
- Locks Lane: Multi-way lights at the Firtree Avenue junction are planned for link box and network upgrades from June 1 to June 5.
- London Road (A217): A lane closure at the Raleigh Gardens junction for lead replacement is planned from July 27 to July 31 following previous works due to finish on May 17. Additional night-time road closures for carriageway resurfacing will take place from August 12 to August 14.
- Morden Road (A239): A night-time road closure for carriageway resurfacing is scheduled for May 11.
- Oakwood Avenue: A road closure for carriageway resurfacing will take place on June 5.
- Raleigh Gardens: A lane closure to decommission an old water main is scheduled from May 25 to June 8.
- Tamworth Lane: Multi-way lights for gas mains replacement will be set up between Cedars Avenue and Barnfield Avenue from May 25 to June 26. Further multi-way lights for gas main works between Manor Road and Marlowe Square are planned from July 13 to July 31. A night-time road closure from Grove Road to Cedars Avenue for carriageway resurfacing will also take place from July 22 to July 25.
- Upper Green West: A road closure to decommission an old water main is ongoing and set to finish on May 20.
- Western Road: Two-way lights between Bond Road and Dorset Road to decommission an old water main are scheduled from May 18 to May 24.
- Westfield Road: A road closure for gas main replacement works that began in March will continue until June 8.
- Wide Way: A night-time road closure from Manor Road to Sherwood Park Road for carriageway resurfacing is scheduled from July 7 to July 10.
Morden
- Eastway: Multi-way lights for gas main replacement are in place already and run until May 29.
- Farm Road: A road closure for carriageway resurfacing will take place from May 26 to May 28.
- Leominster Road: A road closure for carriageway resurfacing will occur on June 1.
- Lower Morden Lane: A night-time road closure between Garth Road and Beverley Roundabout for carriageway resurfacing will take place from July 20 to July 21.
- Salcombe Drive: A road closure to facilitate a storage compound for gas mains replacement began on May 11 and runs to July 20.
- Seddon Road: A road closure for carriageway resurfacing will occur from June 8 to June 10.
- Sheridan Road: A road closure to replace damaged valves and install new equipment at the Dorset Road junction will take place from June 23 to June 24.
- The Green: Multi-way lights between Cannon Hill Lane and Eastway for gas main replacement were put in place on May 8 and run until May 29.
Raynes Park
- Bushey Road: A night-time road closure for carriageway resurfacing is scheduled from July 27 to July 30.
- Cannon Hill Lane: Multi-way temporary traffic signals at the Whatley Avenue junction for connection works will be in place from June 29 to July 10. A road closure for carriageway resurfacing between Martin Way and Kingston Road is also planned from August 3 to August 5.
- Haynt Walk: Multi-way lights for gas mains replacement started on April 13 and run to June 5.
- Kingston Road: A lane closure at the Bushey Road junction for water asset surveys will take place from June 2 to June 3.
- Lower Downs Road: A road closure for carriageway resurfacing is scheduled from August 17 to August 19.
- Parkway: A road closure for carriageway resurfacing is planned from June 2 to June 4.
- West Barnes Lane: A road closure near Linkway for water district meter repairs is scheduled from May 9 to May 10.
- B282 West Barnes Lane, New Malden Level Crossing: Road closures with night-time diversions for level crossing inspections and maintenance are planned for June 9 to June 12, September 2 to September 4, September 13, and September 15 to September 18.
- B282 West Barnes Lane, West Barnes Level Crossing: A night-time road closure with diversions for level crossing maintenance will take place from July 14 to July 17.
- Whatley Avenue: A road closure for gas mains replacement is scheduled from June 15 to July 17.
Wimbledon
- Copse Hill: A road closure from Barham Road to Almer Road for carriageway resurfacing will take place from June 10 to June 12. A road closure from Lindisfarne Road to Chambers Park Hill for gas mains replacement is scheduled from June 27 to August 31. Another road closure from Coombe Lane to Barham Road for gas mains replacement will occur from June 20 to August 14.
- Hartfield Road: A lane closure from Hartfield Crescent to Wimbledon Bridge for gas connections began on May 13 and runs to May 19.
- Kingston Road: A road closure at the Hartfield Road junction to repair damaged carriageway covers will take place from May 23 to May 24.
- Lambourne Avenue: A road closure for carriageway resurfacing is scheduled for June 4.
- Leopold Road: A road closure outside 10 to 12 for maintenance to extra-high voltage power cables started on May 4 and runs to June 15. Temporary lights for ducting installations at Woodside, Kenilworth Avenue, and outside 39 started on May 6 and run to May 29.
- Quicks Road: A road closure between Merton Road and Hardy Road for sewer surveying and lining will take place from May 18 to May 22.
- Thornton Road and St Johns Road: Temporary lights to install ducting and cables for a new power supply to number 39 will be active from May 21 to June 3.
- Wimbledon Hill Road, Wimbledon Bridge, St George’s Road and Alexandra Road: Multi-way lights to access underground equipment during night hours are planned for May 18 to May 19.

This is disguting way of spending mertons budget on a road that does not need resurfacing you are just making a smoother ride for the speeders that come down this road at least of 80 mph most days all day.I would like to remind you that there are two schools on this road.Haven’t you got the brains to put speed cameras in this road.No you don’t care because all you want is to make money.But be it on your head Merton council there will be a fatality if you don’t act soon.This will be ignored I know because the system is all back handers and corrupt to the hills.Shame on you…..
