The summer weather outlook is slightly chaotic – but here’s when the next heatwave could start
With London now being battered by heavy rain and thunder, it’s hard to believe we were enjoying a heatwave just days ago. The recent cooler temperatures are a stark difference to the blistering 35C heat seen over the bank holiday weekend.
Unfortunately for city dwellers, this gloomy grey period looks to be sticking around, with thundery weather looming over the skyline throughout Thursday (June 3). This will be joined by a near-constant downpour and a high of just 17C.
Friday paints a slightly drier picture before rain showers move in over Saturday and Sunday. The chance of precipitation is high and will cover most of the capital, BBC Weather said. So, that being said, when could London next see a heatwave?
Thermometers will begin creeping up towards the mid 20s in the middle of June, with rain becoming less frequent. From here conditions will likely be warmer and less wet than normal for the time of the year, meteorologists believe.
BBC weather said: “After the middle of June, it looks like high pressure should often be present across the UK. This should promote warm conditions with temperatures above the early-summer average in most areas and potentially well above on some days, particularly across England and Wales. It should also be drier than normal in most areas.”
As with anything, the weather is subject to change – but it may be wise to carry an umbrella for the next few weeks.
