No arrests have been made in connection
A cyclist in his 30s is fighting for his life after being hit by an unmarked police car in Bermondsey. The man was struck on Long Lane, a busy road running through Southwark, shortly before 9pm on Friday, June 26.
The vehicle involved had been responding to an emergency call at the time of the collision, the Metropolitan Police said. No arrests have been made in connection.
Paramedics took the injured man to hospital in life-threatening condition, where he remains. The incident has been reported to the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
An independent investigation is now underway at the the IOPC, the Met added.
A force spokesperson said: “At around 8.55pm on Friday, June 26, an unmarked police car responding to an emergency call collided with a cyclist on Long Lane, Bermondsey. The man on the bike, who is in his 30s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition.
“No arrests have been made and the road is now clear. As is standard practice, the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct have been informed about the incident.
“The IOPC has begun an independent investigation and officers will continue to support them and their enquiries.”
