Dozens of Greene King pubs will be open from kick off until the final whistle in the early hours of Monday (July 6)
Pubs across England will be able to stay open until 5am on Monday for England’s World Cup match against Mexico, after an intervention by Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
After England’s dramatic late victory over DR Congo confirmed that they will be facing co-hosts Mexico at 1am UK time, licensing restrictions meant many pubs would not have been able to stay open to show the game unless they had applied for a temporary event notice. However, this intervention by the Prime Minister, allowing pubs to remain open until 5am, is welcome news for fans looking to watch the game.
Greene King, which has 2,600 pubs, restaurants and hotels across the UK, said over 600 pubs in England would stay open late to show the match. In London, 86 Greene King pubs will stay open. The selected pubs will stay open for kick-off and remain open until the final whistle, even if the game goes to penalties.
Andrew Gallagher, Brand and Marketing Director at Greene King, said: “We’re delighted to have been granted permission to stay open late as England progress through the tournament.
“There’s nothing quite like the atmosphere in our pubs and it gives fans the chance to come together, soak up the occasion and hopefully celebrate! We know this will be a popular match, so urge guests to secure their spot as soon as possible.”
