The victim was repeatedly kicked by an unidentified thug
An innocent Tube passenger was left needing surgery when he was battered in a random attack aboard a train, police say.
An unidentified thug launched the brutal assault on a Victoria line service between Stockwell and Vauxhall at around 11.10am on Friday, July 10.
The victim, who did not know his attacker, was repeatedly kicked in his legs, stomach and arms and had to be taken to hospital. The British Transport Police (BTP) is now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
BTP Constable Robert Jeavons said: “This appears to have been an entirely unprovoked attack on a man who was just going about his day. The injuries he sustained were so serious that he required surgery on his leg.
“There were a number of people inside the carriage at the time of the assault, some of whom thankfully intervened. If that was you or you saw what happened, please get in touch with us by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 166 of 10 July.”
The suspect is described as South Asian, in his mid-to-late twenties, around six-feet tall, medium build with a full black beard.
At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black baseball hat, a blue-t-shirt, black shorts and was carrying a black backpack and sling bag. He was accompanied by a woman.
Elsewhere in London, officers are working to find a man who slapped a bystander at Acton Underground station after tailgating through the ticket barriers. The victim was also shoved and followed to a nearby shop before the assault.
Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 166 of 10 July. Reports can also be given to Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111.
