The front page of the Times features a photo of firefighters trying to extinguish houses ablaze in Stourbridge,, external beneath the headline “Houses burn and train derails on hottest day”. The Daily Mail has the headline “Inferno”, external while the front of the Daily Mirror says “Britain on fire”., external

It’s the train derailment that makes the front of the Sun. , externalIts headline is “Horror on the 2:24”, beside a photo of the London to Eastbourne train flipped onto its side near Lewes. The reporting speaks of “pandemonium” as hundreds of emergency response workers tried to help passengers and establish what had happened. The Daily Star’s front page features the same headline – and it describes how passengers were trapped on board., external

In the wake of yesterday’s A-level results, the Guardian carries a warning, external from higher education leaders that universities will be pushed to the financial brink because of a slump in international students. The head of the Russell Group of universities tells the paper “this isn’t just worrying for universities, it’s not good news for the UK as a whole”.

The i Paper focuses on higher water bill, externals on the way from five companies, which it says lose 1.2 billion litres a day because of leaks. The Daily Express reports on what it calls “fury” about “rewards for failure”.

The Daily Telegraph publishes claims – made by US politicians, external – that China is suspected of funding pro-Palestinian marches in the UK. It says the claims come from an investigation into the money that helped to pay for Code Pink, a left-wing feminist organisation in the US, which it says received money from a tech tycoon with links to Beijing. A spokesman for one of the group’s UK campaigners denies being part of any propaganda campaign.

The Times reports tension , externalbetween the druids of Anglesey and an occult store on the island. The shop’s owner has accused Druids of disrespecting ancient local monuments, who says they “parade around” in cheap robes “claiming to reconnect with Britain’s ancient history”. The Anglesey Druid Order has hit back in the paper, saying “to imply that such behaviour represents modern druidry as a whole is simply unsupported”.
