It’s been a busy week for the Met Police with bloodshed across the capital. A London bus driver was shot dead in Clapham, a pensioner died in a botched North London burglary with a manhunt underway and a teenager was stabbed in Streatham.
The incidents weren’t confined to one part of the capital either – they happened all over the city. Despite the violent week, it’s worth noting that violent crime is down in the capital. Neighbourhood crime in London – which includes theft, robbery and burglary – fell by 14% in the 12 months to June. The number of homicides involving a knife or sharp instrument recorded annually by police in England and Wales has also fallen to its lowest level for 35 years.
This makes London safer than all major US cities and Paris – check out what a former top cop had to say when we asked him why. We’ve summarised all the recent incidents below with links to the wider coverage.
