All aboard for free vintage bus rides this October!

London Bus Museum’s semi-regular heritage day returns on Saturday 3 October 2026, when buses dating from the 1930s-70s ply a short stretch of the 106 route, pinging between Finsbury Park and Ash Grove Bus Station on Mare Street. Stops along the way are Stoke Newington, Clapton and Hackney Central.

How does it work? Simply show up at one of the bus stops on the route above, between 10am-5pm. Soon enough a vintage bus — most are Routemasters and their predecessor the RT-type, but you never quite know what you might get — will scoop you up.

A timetable

Some services have a conductor on board too, handing out facsimile tickets. (Just be aware that if you board a modern TfL service on the route that day, you’ll need to tap in and pay a fare.)

And the fun doesn’t end there. Ash Grove Garage is hosting a 45th anniversary open day, giving you a chance to snoop behind the scenes. There’s a small entry fee, with proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support.

London Bus Museum Route 106 Heritage Day, Saturday 3 October 2026, approx 10am-5pm, free.

Note that because of the buses’ vintage, they’re unable to accommodate wheelchairs and most modern buggies, although crews will make every effort to accommodate the less able and those with small children.
