The car’s driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing his passenger’s death by dangerous driving
A 38-year-old man has died in a collision between a car and bus on the North Circular in West London overnight. Emergency services were called to the scene on Gunnersbury Avenue, in Chiswick, at around 12.20am on August 20 and found three injured people.
The passenger of the car died at the scene, the Metropolitan Police confirmed in a statement this afternoon. The force is yet to release his name but are supporting his next-of-kin.
The driver, a 24-year-old man, was taken to hospital and has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He continues to receive treatment for non-life-threatening or life-changing injuries.
Paramedics also took the bus driver, 61, to hospital with minor injuries as a precaution. Gunnersbury Avenue was cordoned off for several hours between Chiswick Roundabout and Gunnersbury Lane whilst the fatal scene was investigated.
Officers are now appealing for any witnesses, especially those with CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward to help with ongoing enquiries.
The London Ambulance Service dispatched several specialised resources to the collision, including London’s Air Ambulance. A spokesperson said: “We were called at 12:18am today (20 August) to reports of a road traffic collision on Gunnersbury Avenue, W3.
“We sent ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer and paramedics from our hazardous area response team (HART). We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.
“The first paramedic arrived on the scene in less than seven minutes. We treated three people in total. We took two patients to hospital but sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a patient was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD141/20AUG.
