A father-of-one died after being electrocuted while working at a five-star hotel, a coroner has found.

Jason Gledhill was found dead after working alone in a maintenance room at the Southampton Harbour Hotel in Ocean Village on 13 August.

Christopher Wilkinson, the senior coroner for Hampshire, said that a post-mortem examination found that the 55-year-old’s cause of death was electrocution.

A full inquest will be held at Winchester Coroners’ Court on 30 June 2027.

Mr Gledhill, from Denton in Manchester, was described as a “true all-round club-man” by Denton St Lawrence Cricket Club.

The club said that he had given “so much of himself” over the years, previously serving as a member of the club committee and dedicating considerable time to running its junior section.

A spokesperson said: “It is with great sadness that we share the news that one of our much-loved and highly respected members Jason Gledhill, sadly passed away on Thursday 13th August.

“Jason was a true all-round club man and someone who always had time for everyone. He gave so much of himself to our club over the years and played an important part in so many areas.

“More importantly, he was a friend to so many and a familiar, welcoming face who will be remembered with enormous affection.

“His passing is a huge loss to the club and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be greatly missed.”

The club concluded its tribute: “Rest in peace, Jason. You will always be remembered as a true gentleman and will be greatly missed by everyone at the club.”

The club also extended its condolences to Jason’s wife Paula, daughter Georgina and his wider family and friends.

Mr Gledhill’s funeral will take place on 11 September at The Cypress, Stockport Crematorium.

After the service, mourners will be welcome to join the family at Denton St Lawrence Cricket Club.

At the time of the incident, three fire engines, two ambulances, an air ambulance, a police van and electrical engineering van were all at the scene.

Police were spotted carrying bags of evidence from the scene including a pair of Adidas trainers, a set of keys, a wallet, and a drill before his body was removed and placed in a private ambulance.

Phone lines at the waterfront hotel were temporarily unavailable as a result of the incident, with guests advised to use an alternative entrance.

Police cordoned off the hotel entrance and placed signs warning of “danger” outside, and guests were redirected to a different entrance.
