The teenager is accused of killing schoolboy Eghosa Ogbebor last week
A Romford teenager has been charged with murder over the shooting of 14-year-old Eghosa Ogbebor. The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of killing the ‘talented’ schoolboy in Woolwich on Thursday, April 2.
Police and paramedics were called to Lord Warwick Street at 3.40pm and found Eghosa with serious gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.
The Abbey Wood resident was involved in a confrontation with other males in nearby Kingsman Street minutes prior to the shooting, the Metropolitan Police said. Officers initially detained the 16-year-old boy on suspicion of murder on April 4 but he was released on bail.
He was re-arrested and charged a week later and is due to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court today. A second 16-year-old boy has also been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
The investigation into Eghosa’s death is ongoing, with detectives continuing to gather CCTV evidence and witness statements. A third 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were apprehended on suspicion of murder on April 4, but have since been released on bail.
Police have also bailed a 14-year-old, 18-year-old and 46-year-old who were previously arrested in connection to the fatal shooting.
Eghosa had ‘gone to film music video’
Eghosa left the house on the day of his death to film a music video with friends, relatives have said. Speaking at the family home in Abbey Wood, about a mile from the scene, the teenager’s aunt told Metro: “He was so fun, playful and full of life.
“He loved his family and had so many friends he was very popular. He loved music he was so talented and lived for it.
“On the day he was shot, he had gone out to film a video with his friends. He never came back. His mother is broken. He was so young, he had his whole life ahead of him. He was so young, just a boy.”
Eghosa’s family are being supported by specialist officers at the Met throughout the investigation.
