Tens of thousands of racers and spectators will descend on Central London this weekend
Tens of thousands of runners will descend on the capital for the ninth annual London Landmarks Half Marathon (LLHM) this Sunday (April 12). The buzzy closed-road race sees participants journey 13.1 miles past the likes of Big Ben, The Shard and St Paul’s Cathedral.
Spectators can also enjoy musical performances, DJs and dancers while cheering on their loved ones and friends. The LLHM is the only half marathon that takes place across both the City of London and City of Westminster, meaning traffic is rerouted in much of Zone 1 across race day.
Road closures will be in place from around 2.30am – find the full list below. A number of Tube stations are expected to be busier than usual too as crowds attempt to reach the start line. Here’s what you need to know if you’re heading there:
Route map and start times
Runners will set off in waves outside Whitehall from 9:15am – 10:40am:
- Heart Wave (accessible) – 9.15am
- Lightning Wave – 9.20am
- Cheetah Wave – 9.30am
- Dragon Wave – 9.40am
- Tommy’s Wave – 9.50am
- Sunshine Wave – 10.10am
- Rainbow Wave – 10.20am
- Diamond Wave – 10.30am
- Royal Wave – 10.40am
The route travels past historic sights in Westminster, before heading down the Embankment and along the River Thames. The finish line is by Trafalgar Square.
How to get there by Tube
The nearest London Undergroind stations to the start line and arrival area are Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus and Green Park. However, there are a number of disruptions planned that may impact runners:
- No District or Circle line through Central London, including Westminster and Embankment
- Waterloo & City line is closed
- DLR services to Bank are heavily reduced
- Elizabeth line services into Paddington are disrupted
Participants are encouraged to use Jubilee, Central, Northern and Bakerloo services where possible.
