Labour aim to hold on to their 47 seat majority on May 7, while the Conservatives, Greens, Lib Dems and Reform all hope to make gains in the red London stronghold
All 55 seats on Greenwich Council will be up for election come May 7 when voters take to the polls. Notable candidates next month include former Prime Minister Liz Truss’ husband Hugh O’Leary, who is standing for the Conservatives in Woolwich Arsenal.
Mr O’Leary, an accountant, has stood unsuccessfully for the Tories in Greenwich on several occasions, the most recent time being in 2006. Austin Powers also hopes to become one of Greenwich’s first Reform council members when he stands for election in Abbey Wood.
Greenwich Council has been a Labour stronghold since 1971. Labour currently holds a 47 seat majority on the council, while the Conservative opposition have only four council members. There are also two independents and two Greens currently sitting on Greenwich Council.
