This coastal walk is perfect for those wishing to escape the busy capital, especially now the sun is making appearances

The sunnier, hotter days are making a return and if you’re wanting to find ways to enjoy the sunshine, then you can take in this lovely scenic coastal walk. Maybe you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the capital, especially with the Bank Holiday coming soon.

The gorgeous seaside towns of Ramsgate and Margate are just a short train journey from London. There’s a nearly 10-mile coastal walk between the two which has earned the title of the most ‘ridiculously scenic’ walk near London, courtesy of TimeOut.

Along the Kentish coast you can take in the traditional Ramsgate town and walk along the coast to reach the vibrant Margate.

As you walk the route, you will pass Broadstairs, another historic coastal town, and other scenic bays which are less crowded.

The Thanet Coastal Path is a perfect path to follow, as you can take different routes: from walking along the chalk cliffs and capturing views over the channel, or promenades down at the beach, it is great for all.

The route is described as “pretty easy – just follow the coast, swapping between the cliff top path and the beach as you wish and the tide dictates!”

Ramsgate is an old town and boasts beach cafes on the way to the town to satisfy your cravings.

They also have a very large new Wetherspoons pub in a restored seafront heritage building – The Royal Victoria Pavillion, which includes a sun terrace looking over the harbour and the beach.

You will pass lots of sandy coves and Botany Bay is the most isolated and picturesque beach in Broadstairs.

From that point, it is a concrete promenade all the way to Margate. The town has a blend of modernity and vintage shops.

They have a large new free art gallery and numerous pubs and cafes to get some much-needed grub as well as taking in the breathtaking views over Margate.

From London there are trains from St Pancras International, Charing Cross or London Victoria. The journey takes around 1 hour 18 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes.

When leaving Margate there are also trains taking you to St Pancras International, Charing Cross and London Victoria. With the journey taking around 1 hour 43 minutes.
