Don’t panic next time you forget to pack your adapter

Beyond losing your passport, there are few things quite as irritating as realising you’ve forgotten your mobile phone charging adapter while away on holiday.

While a short break from technology can be a good thing, most travellers rely on their phones for taking photos, finding places to eat, arranging activities, and staying in touch with family and friends. If you’ve arrived at your hotel feeling exhausted, only to discover you haven’t brought a charger that works with the local plug sockets – don’t panic.

A cabin crew member has shared an ingenious solution that allows you to charge your device without heading down to reception and purchasing an expensive European adapter. Esther Sturrus has worked as a flight attendant since 2019, having served with both TUI and KLM airlines.

She has subsequently built up an impressive following of 221,000 on TikTok, owing to her useful travel advice and honest video diaries. In one of her most popular clips, the 24-year-old revealed six hotel tricks she relies upon.

“World travel plug broken?” she said. “Use your USB cable and charge it in the TV.” The flight attendant added: “This is extremely helpful if you forgot or lost your wall plug from your charger.”

Additional suggestions from Esther include using a clothes hanger to cover any openings in your curtains, covering the television remote with a shower cap to prevent germ exposure, and putting a shoe inside a locker to guarantee you won’t forget your valuables. She also revealed that virtually any card can be used in a hotel room to switch on the lights and air conditioning, reports the Express.

Meanwhile, an Emirates flight attendant previously explained the crucial safety reason behind cabin crew being required to wear specific pyjamas on long-haul flights. Stewardess Dani displayed her sleepwear in a TikTok video, showing a red top with the word ‘CREW’ printed on the back, combined with striped cotton trousers.

“During long haul flights, cabin crew will change into the pyjamas and take their break,” she said. “If an emergency should occur while the crew are on their break, and they don’t have time to get changed into their normal uniform they can still be easily identified to customers.”

Hundreds of viewers flocked to the comments section to express their views, with many describing the policy as “clever”.

“That’s actually very smart,” one user wrote. “Cute, practical and necessary,” another commented, while a third added: “I actually love them. [I] used to be a British Airways crew and wish we had crew PJs.”
