Tiffany Treanor-Johnson had inhaled nitrous oxide before hitting and killing Harry Webb

A woman from Hackney has pleaded guilty to hitting and killing a cyclist after inhaling nitrous oxide while reaching a speed of 50mph in a 20 mph zone.

Tiffany Treanor-Johnson, of Bramshaw Road, Homerton, who was 24 at the time, crashed into 27-year-old Harry Webb as he was cycling on Kenworthy Road, Hackney. The cyclist was critically injured in the crash on Kenworthy Road on the evening of September 10, 2023.

Ms Treanor-Johnson had pleaded not guilty to the charge, and before the trial was set to start on April 29, she changed her plea to guilty. The 27-year-old defendant wept in the dock at Snaresbrook Crown Court as she admitted causing Mr Webb’s death by dangerous driving during a hearing on April 29.

It was found that before the crash, Ms Treanor-Johnson had inhaled nitrous oxide, which would have affected her driving. Her speed reached up to 51mph on the 20mph Kenworthy Road before mounting the pavement and crashing into Harry Webb as he was on his way to an evening swim.

He was on the phone with his parents with his phone mounted and earphones in after they had helped him move into his new home in Hackney, when he was hit by Ms Treanor-Johnson.

Mr Webb was described as a popular Welshman who was studying at the London College of Contemporary Music. Fiona Robertson, prosecuting, told the court the starting point for Treanor-Johnson’s jail sentence should be 12 years, though this will be reduced due to her guilty plea.

Judge Rosa Dean ordered Treanor-Johnson to be taken into custody immediately due to “substantial concerns” she would fail to attend the subsequent sentencing hearing.

Detective Inspector Mark Braithwaite, of the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Harry’s life was cruelly stolen from him by Tiffany Treanor-Johnson. Her decision to initially contest the case put his family and loved ones through months of unnecessary pain as they prepared for the trial.”
