The commuter town offers scenic views and is easy to get to for London commuters
Now that summer’s not far off, you might be starting to think about holidays, weekend getaways and day trips. Leigh-on-Sea has one of the best beaches in the UK and is filled with cobblestone streets, and historic connections to fishing.
TimeOut, in its list of the best beaches near London, bestowed the honour, highlighting as well its ease of access from London – just a fifty minute train journey from Fenchurch Street.
Leigh-on-Sea is full of charming craft shops and galleries and a mix of cafes for visitors to indulge in. Old Leigh is perfect for a stroll, and there is a selection of pubs and seafood restaurants or cockle sheds to get some grub.
People can take in the picturesque sea view while unwinding and enjoying their food. There is also lots to do for visitors. A visit to Old Leigh Art Studios to appreciate local artists and their work is well worth it.
The artwork is produced on the site, so there are artists who are willing to talk to customers about their work. The studio also offers a wide variety of affordable handcrafted ceramics and artwork.
The town is home to plenty of restaurants, such as The Inn at Belfairs, a Premium Pub Restaurant located in the scenic Belfairs Park.
The interiors are stunning and it has a full fronted glass dining area and a garden attached to see the lovely views. Google reviews have given glowing reviews of the restaurant. One said: “The food was absolutely delicious – fresh, well prepared, and beautifully presented.”
Cubanos is another cafe that serves a wide selection of meals and cakes, desserts and an afternoon tea selection. Their daily menu consists of seasonal ingredients.
The cafe offers Cuban options and takes great pride in being the only cafe in the local area to provide this type of cuisine.
For homeowners, according to Rightmove, the average house price overall was £444,656 over the last year. Semi-detached properties sold for an average price of £481,664. Flats sold for an average of £266,352, and detached properties sold for £605,276.
This is a stark contrast to house prices in London, which have an overall average of £674,105 over the last year.
There are easy transport options available, as the train from London Fenchurch Street to Leigh-on-Sea takes about 50 minutes. It also takes an average of an hour and a half by car.
