London weather exact date temperature will soar to 24C after week of rain

The end of May is looking up, with the sunshine set to make a glorious return

London is set to see the mercury spike, according to forecasters at the BBC. Between Thursday, May 21, and Monday, May 23, temperatures will range from 23C to 24C.

This will be a much-needed and pleasant improvement from the next few days, when things will be rainy and miserable. Thermostats will plummet to as low as 6C, leaving us feeling chilly and wet – if we’re caught up in the rain.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast doesn’t stretch as far as the BBC’s, so there’s no indication yet for the end of May. But it does confirm the wet and cloudy forecast, so we will be needing our umbrellas for the next few days.

Clare Nasir, meteorologist at The Met Office said: “The air is unstable so we’ll see some heavy downpours today with the risk of hail and thunder. And they could cluster together to form longer spells of rain.

“Low pressure still in charge through Wednesday into Thursday. The air is cool coming in from a chilly direction, further showers likely then through Thursday, and yet again some heavy thundery downpours can’t be ruled out.”
