Bank holiday weekend is on the horizon and many of us will want to know about supermarket opening times. It comes as The Met Office forecasts temperatures to reach a sweltering 30C at times in the capital, meaning many of us are likely to be flocking to supermarkets to buy booze and other BBQ essentials.
But with different supermarkets having different types of stores, this means there will be different opening times across the capital. And one thing we don’t want to do is rock up to buy goods, only to learn it’s closed.
To help you avoid disaster we’ve collected the opening times for Asda, Aldi, Lidl, Sainsbury’s, and Tesco. You can find everything you need below.
Asda
Last year Asdas opened slightly later than usual, between 7am and 8am and closed at 10pm. Scottish Asda branches stuck to their regular hours over the weekend. The chain’s smaller convenience stores, Asda Express, are usually open 24 hours every day – even on Sundays and bank holidays. MyLondon has contacted Asda for confirmation on its bank holiday opening times for 2026.
Aldi
Aldi shoppers are advised that the quietest times to pick up their shopping will be between 8am and 9am, and 7pm and 10pm. Britain’s biggest discounter will be open from 8am to 10pm on Friday (May 22) and Saturday May (23), before opening from 10am to 4pm on Sunday (May 24).
On bank holiday Monday (May 25), Aldi stores will be open from 8am until 8pm, with customers advised to check local store hours online for any variations.
Rachel Geary, Communications Director at Aldi UK, said: “The late May bank holiday is the perfect chance to enjoy great food, make the most of the longer days and spend quality time with friends and family.
“At Aldi, shoppers can find everything they need at unbeatable value, so they can focus on what really matters – enjoying the long weekend.”
