Love Island 2026 contestant Mica Harris has a remarkable family background, including her aunt being the Prime Minister of Barbados
Love Island is set to kick off very soon and one of the islanders has some rather impressive connections, with a relative from Only Fools and Horses and an aunt who serves as Prime Minister of Barbados.
Mica Harris, 21, hails from Barbados but now calls London home, and comes from a family steeped in politics. It has emerged that Mica’s aunt is Mia Mottley, the Prime Minister of Barbados, while Mica’s grandfather and great-grandfather were also prominent politicians on the Caribbean island.
Mica has posted numerous photographs of her family while in Barbados, including a post celebrating her aunt’s triumph as her party secured all 30 seats in parliament. “Unbelievably proud,” Mica wrote alongside a post marking the victory.
Mica’s mother and aunt are cousins with the late actress Eva Mottley, who was best known for playing Corinne, Denzil’s wife, in Only Fools And Horses.
Her character Corinne made her debut in an episode where Denzil (played by Paul Barber) summons Del Boy (David Jason), Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst) and Grandad (Lennard Pearce) to decorate his flat, reports the Mirror.
During ‘Who’s a Pretty Boy?’, her character was less than thrilled with the Trotters turning up to handle the painting and decorating, remarking of Del: “What the hell is he doing in my home.”
In the episode, Del infamously swaps Corinne’s already deceased canary with one purchased from a pet shop, wrongly believing the paint fumes had caused the bird’s untimely demise. This family connection makes the late star Mica’s first cousin once removed. The pair would never have met Barbadian-born Eva as she died by suicide in 1985 aged 31.
The TV star was also recognised for portraying Bella O’Reilly in the 1983 TV drama Widows and another role in Bergerac, while also appearing briefly in the film Superman III. During her short-lived entertainment career, Eva was also rumoured to have dated David Bowie for two years.
Before entering the villa, Mica described her type as: “Definitely someone that’s tall, I’m tall myself so I like to feel small. I like a little bit of a buffer, a bigger guy. The most important thing for me is personality. I just want someone that will make me laugh. I want to get along with someone.”
She also outlined precisely what she isn’t seeking: “I do not want a really egotistical, cringy man. That’s not my vibe at all. I can’t have someone who’s more into themselves then they are me. They need to be obsessed with me.”
Discussing her current dating situation she revealed: “Honestly, it’s been quiet but it’s been peaceful. I’ve been trying to focus on myself and protect my peace. But as a strict programme for 2026, I’m not taking the b******t I used to.”
The 2026 line-up for the programme was officially unveiled this week, and amongst the contestants are a detective, an electrician, a nurse, a quantity surveyor and DJ, a businessman, a school teacher, a real estate videographer, and a model.
With just days to go until the new series kicks off, a brand new crop of singletons will be heading to the Majorcan villa in search of their perfect match this summer, and ITV is going all out to make this year’s show one to remember.
