As national teams prepare for the World Cup 2026, which kicks off in under two weeks, the schedule has been set for wall-to-wall coverage of an exciting summer.
This is the biggest World Cup to date, with 48 teams set to take part in the tournament hosted by the USA, Mexico and Canada that starts on June 11. There will be a record 104 games, and the BBC and ITV will show them all.
The first two matches of the World Cup, which will see Mexico take on South Africa and South Korea vs the Czech Republic, will both be broadcast on ITV. The BBC will then show the next two games, Canada v Bosnia-Herzegovina and USA vs Paraguay.
This will be Thomas Tuchel’s first World Cup campaign with the England national team, and with some big players like Cole Palmer missing out on the squad, expectations are high to see if the team can go further than its semi-final showing at Qatar in 2022.
Where to watch
There will be 54 live games shown on BBC One or Two, with all of them available on BBC iPlayer – in UHD – and the BBC Sport website and app. They include Scotland’s group games against Haiti and Brazil – and England’s match with Ghana. The Three Lions’ games in the last 32, last 16 and semi-final – if they get that far – will all be on the BBC.
The final will be broadcast on both channels and will be entirely free-to-air. ITV’s matches will air across ITV1, ITV4, and ITVX, with 29 group-stage matches shown. ITV will have its choice of three of the top picks for the Quarter-Final stages of the tournament, including the first two picks, plus five of the top nine picks of the round of 32.
There will be 54 matches shown live on the BBC, including the final on 19 July, with 92 games on BBC Sounds and every single match covered on the BBC Sport website and app. If England make it through the group stages, their games in the last 32, last 16 and semi-finals will all be shown on the BBC.
