The family of Taiwo Ekerin said he was killed in an “unprovoked attack”
A beloved 41-year-old dad killed outside a Lewisham nightclub has been named and pictured for the first time. Taiwo Ekerin suffered a fatal head injury during an altercation outside Alpha Lounge on Lewisham High Street shortly before 4.40am on Sunday, May 24.
He was rushed to hospital where he later died from his injuries. The Metropolitan Police has launched a murder investigation and is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
Taiwo’s family have since launched a crowdfunding page to help pay for his funeral. Paying tribute to him, Kenny Ekerin described Taiwo as a “much-loved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend”.
“Above all, Taiwo was a devoted father to his daughter, who now faces the future without her dad,” he added. “Taiwo was known for his warmth, kindness, sense of humour, and the love he gave so freely to those around him.
“His life was taken far too soon, and our family is struggling to come to terms with this devastating tragedy.”
The Met is keen for witnesses to submit any CCTV or vehicle dash-camera footage to help track his killer down.
A Scotland Yard spokesperson said: “Detectives are appealing for any information from members of the public or anyone who may have witnessed events on May 24 at around 4.38am outside Alpha Lounge, Lewisham High Street.
“Metropolitan Police officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service, where a 41 year old man, Taiwo Ekerin, had sustained a serious head injury. He was taken to hospital, but despite the best efforts of emergency services, he sadly died from his injuries.
“Anyone who recorded the incident on their mobile phone, or has CCTV, vehicle dash-camera footage available, is asked to preserve the footage and supply it to the police, as part of the investigation.
“Please make contact if you have witnessed anything, but have not yet spoken to officers. The male’s family are currently being supported by specially trained officers.”
