Netflix viewers may be wondering where they can watch other documentaries exploring the same devastating case
Netflix viewers have been horrified after a brand new true crime show was released exploring a case that sent shockwaves through Britain.
The Murder of Rachel Nickell was released this week, plunging viewers back to 1992 when the 23-year-old mum was stabbed to death in broad daylight. Rachel had been out walking her dog, with two-year-old son Alex, when she was subjected to a frenzied and bloodied attack.
She was stabbed 49 times and died from her injuries, leaving her son Alex as the only witness. The Netflix documentary explores the harrowing case and the huge miscarriage of justice when a man was wrongly accused.
A synopsis teases: “In 1992, a young mother is killed in broad daylight on London’s Wimbledon Common, leaving her two-year-old toddler as the sole witness.”
It continues: “Exploring the shocking real events behind the drama series The Witness, this gripping documentary from BAFTA-nominated director Lucy Bowden examines the notorious, years-long police investigation that followed.”
“Featuring exclusive archive footage, first-hand accounts from family members, and insights from leading forensic experts, the film unpacks how a flawed, highly-publicised inquiry led to the wrong man’s prosecution, before a stunning breakthrough reignited a family’s fight for justice over a decade later.”
However, there are other documentaries exploring the same case, and they can also be streamed on ITVX or Prime Video. Here’s all you need to know.
The Wimbledon Killer
The Wimbledon Killer is available to stream on Prime Video also exploring the death of Rachel Nickell.
With a spotlight on the wrongful arrest of Colin Stagg and how Robert Napper evaded justice, the two part series explores how Napper was eventually caught.
A synopsis reads: “When Rachel Nickell is stabbed to death on Wimbledon Common in 1992 the police launch the biggest investigation since the Yorkshire Ripper. Colin Stagg is arrested, only for the judge to throw out the case.”
The Murder that Changed Britain
Released in 2022, The Murder that Changed Britain was first aired on CBS reality.
It can be streamed on both ITVX and Disney Plus as a synopsis reads: “Chilling doc about the murder of a young mother. Rachel Nickell was killed on 15 July 1992 on Wimbledon Common as her three-year-old son looked on.”
Cold Case Forensics
