Everything you need to know about the new East London lido opening this week
- Sea Lanes Canary Wharf will open to Londoners on Friday, June 19, bringing a new freshwater lido to the heart of the East London financial district. It comes just in time for temperatures to climb back up in the capital, with the Met Office currently predicting highs of 29 degrees and full sun on Friday.
- The state-of-the-art venue at Eden Dock features a 50-metre Olympic-sized pool with six lanes and two renewable energy-powered saunas. The facility also includes a community clubhouse offering food and drink, plus a wetsuit concierge service.
- Despite its Thames location, swimmers won’t actually be in the river water. The pool floats on the dock and uses naturally filtered freshwater that’s regularly tested to EU Bathing Standards.
- Visitors can choose between membership options or pay-per-swim access. The expansion follows the success of Sea Lanes’ Brighton site, which opened in June 2023.
- Joe McNulty, Director at Sea Lanes, said: “We’re thrilled to bring a National Open Water Swimming Centre to the heart of Canary Wharf, offering Londoners a chance to swim in natural water.”
- The venue promises to be “an urban oasis for health and wellbeing” in the green waterfront setting of Eden Dock.
