A man was reportedly attacked while trying to get his mobile phone back, the British Transport Police said
A police investigation is underway after a man allegedly stole a passenger’s mobile phone onboard a Thameslink train before attacking him. At around 4.30am on Friday, May 8, a man got on a London-bound train in St Albans with a group of friends.
He reportedly began acting in an antisocial manner towards other passengers, police say, before grabbing someone’s phone. The victim confronted him and was able to get the phone back, but they were attacked as they did so.
Police say the suspect then walked down the carriage before getting off the train at Cricklewood. Officers have released images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident. Police described him as white with brown hair, and he was wearing a light blue t-shirt, a blue/grey jacket and dark blue tracksuit bottoms.
Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact the British Transport Police. A force spokesperson said: “Officers have released images of a man they would like to speak to following a robbery on a train in Hertfordshire. The incident happened at around 4.30am on Friday, May 8, when the man boarded a London-bound train at St Albans station with a group of friends.
“Once he was on board, he began acting in an antisocial manner towards other passengers. He walked past the victim before turning back and suddenly grabbing his phone from his hand and walking off.
“The victim got up and went after him and managed to retrieve his phone, but was assaulted by the man as he did so. The man then moved down the train before he left at Cricklewood.
“Officers believe the man in the image could have information that may assist their enquiries. Anyone who recognises him is asked to text BTP on 61016, or call 0800 40 50 40, using the reference 61 of 8 May. Information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
