Buckingham Palace says it is seeking a videographer to work as part of the Royal communications team with a view to capturing and sharing ‘high-quality content’ on social media – and it pays very well
King Charles III and Queen Camilla are on the hunt for a videographer to produce “on-trend” content for the Royal Household’s social media channels. The job role, which comes with an attractive £52,000 salary, offers the successful applicant the chance to join the royal communications team within the Private Secretary’s office.
This permanent position will be the first of its kind for a British monarch, with the application deadline set for 12 July. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of duties, from covering major state occasions to capturing and sharing “high-quality content” of behind-the-scenes moments across platforms including Instagram, X and YouTube.
“It’s using your creativity to bring stories to life,” the job advertisement begins. “It’s inspiring millions through powerful visual content. This is what makes a career with the Royal Household exceptional.”
It further states: “The Royal Communications team is at the heart of how the Royal Family connects with audiences around the world. As videographer, you’ll play a key role in shaping how those stories are told across digital platforms, capturing moments that are shared globally.”
The core responsibilities of the position include attending Royal visits, engagements and key initiatives throughout the UK and occasionally abroad, while staying abreast of the latest trends and continuously developing content to maximise audience reach and engagement.
The Royal Household further specifies that it is seeking an “experienced videographer” with a “strong creative instinct” and a thorough grasp of social media content – someone who will bring “fresh ideas, a proactive mindset and a passion for storytelling” through developing innovative content formats and ideas.
The position is for 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, and comes with a range of benefits, including 25 days of annual leave (rising to 30) and a 20% discount at Royal Collection Trust Shops.
The newly advertised role prompted a divided response online, however.
One X user fumed: “Since when does a British monarch need to be ‘on trend’ or reach a global audience? This lot are clearly not as popular as the polls suggest. This smells desperate.”
A second person pondered: “On-trend… are they influencers now? How pathetic.”
While a third slammed: “Royal Family don’t bother, you’ll be gone soon and then we will have a real King and Queen who cares about us.”
And a fourth asked: “Who on earth would watch anything they make? Two unattractive, boring elderly people famous for the Tampongate phone call.”
Others were far more enthusiastic in their support, however, with one X user exclaiming: “Good. It is the modern era.” Another enthused: “This is much needed! A fabulous move!”
And a third agreed: “Finally. They are definitely one of the few heads of state and their spouses in the world without an official videographer.”
Buckingham Palace has been approached for comment.
