Tickets are still on sale for the West End Girl singer’s last show at the O2
The final night of Lily Allen’s three O2 shows is upon us, and the West End Girl singer has certainly made her mark in London. Controversy over her 50-minute set and her spirited defence of it has only drawn more attention to the tour, which has earned high praise from critics.
The singer-songwriter, 41, famed for the noughties’ hits “Smile”, “The Fear” and “It’s Not Fair”, appears to be making a triumphant comeback following the success of her album ” West End Girl” last year, with over 267 million streams on Spotify, and a third consecutive top five position on the UK Albums Chart.
The show – Lily Allen Performs West End Girl – sees Lily play “West End Girl” in its entirety, with the final at the O2 due to take place on Tuesday, July 7. Here, we dive into everything you need to know ahead of Lily’s last London concert this summer.
Who is Lily Allen?
Lily Allen was born in Hammersmith in May 1985, the second child of actor Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen. Lily has an elder sister, Rebecca, and a younger brother, actor Alfie Allen. Lily went to no fewer than 13 schools and was expelled from several of them. She found her niche with music thanks to encouragement from a teacher, who gave her singing lessons.
Lily was turned down by several record labels and had already begun writing a catalogue of songs before she signed with Regal Recordings in 2005. She released demos of her future singles “Smile”, “LDN”, “Knock ‘Em Out”, and “Alfie” on Myspace and gained thousands of listeners, which persuaded the record label to give her more creative control.
Her debut album, ‘Alright, Still’, was released in July 2006, and went on to sell almost a million copies in the UK and over 500,000 in the US. Her second album, ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’ followed in February 2009 and spawned the hits ‘The Fear’ and ‘Not Fair’ – the latter featuring confessional lyrics and a self-deprecating lilt, cementing Lily’s status as an alternative 21st century pop star.
