A convicted London Underground sex offender has been jailed after threatening to stab British Transport Police officers because details of his crimes and custody photo were made public.
A convicted sex offender has been jailed after calling British Transport Police (BTP) and threatening to stab officers because he was angry that details of his crimes and his custody photograph had been made public.
Mansoor Ahmed, 31, of Blackthorn Avenue, north London, was sentenced to six months in prison at Inner London Crown Court on 3 July after pleading guilty to threatening communications, possession of cannabis and a public order offence.
The call was made at around 2.30pm on 27 May to BTP’s First Contact Centre. Ahmed gave a reference number linked to his own case, which related to a BTP investigation into the sexual assault of two women on the London Underground in late 2020.
BTP detectives had previously secured Ahmed’s conviction for those offences, for which he was jailed for two years and two months. Police said Ahmed launched into a 14-minute tirade because he was angry that details of his crimes and his custody photograph had been published following his conviction.
During the call, he repeatedly threatened officers, telling the call handler: “I’m coming to stab all of you […] I’m coming to stab a transport police officer.” Police said Ahmed also made sexually violent threats towards women and children before saying: “When I find one of your transport police officers, I’m going to put acid on his face.”
Detectives from BTP’s Major, Serious and Organised Crime team launched a manhunt and arrested Ahmed in west London on 29 May, two days after the call. Officers said he continued to abuse police during his arrest and while being driven into custody.
During interview, Ahmed said a “red mist” had come over him during the phone call because of the publicity surrounding his previous convictions and the release of his custody photograph. He also admitted he was a criminal but claimed he was “not evil”.
Following the investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service authorised charges and Ahmed was remanded in custody before sentencing.
Detective Constable Lee Smith, of BTP, said: “Mansoor Ahmed’s threats towards our call handler and officers were frankly disgusting.
“He’s a career criminal with a string of previous convictions, so it was imperative we caught him soon after the call before he could harm our officers or the public.
“Once we tracked him down and took him into custody, he quickly changed his tune after realising he was faced with another stint behind bars.
“This outcome shows we’ll never stand for horrific abuse or threats towards anyone at BTP.”
