TOMORA have spoken to NME about soundtracking the TV coverage of the World Cup in the UK, just as their native countries of England and Norway go head to head tonight (Saturday July 11).

The duo made up of Norwegian art-pop phenomenon Aurora and The Chemical Brothers‘ legend Tom Rowland have two songs from their acclaimed 2026 debut album ‘Come Closer‘, with UK football fans likely to have heard the ear-worm single ‘Somewhere Else’ over the top of the BBC’s main theme for the tournament.

“We both liked the idea of this place called ‘Somewhere Else’,” the pair told NME about the song. “We always pictured it written on a mysterious door that you could open and end up somewhere beautiful. Maybe just the place you need. We hear birds from inside this door, we put them in the song. It’s lovely.”

Meanwhile, ‘In A Minute’ has also been used across a lot of ITV’s promotional coverage of the World Cup.

“These voices are quite eager, the voices constantly singing during the whole song,” the band told us of the track. “We don’t want you to forget about them. Somehow they are important.

“It’s because of them and after they disappear that you get to where you need to be. In a minute you’ll see the sun, this is important to remember too.”

Asked why they thought these songs in particular had been used for the occasion, the duo said they were “delighted” as they “love football and the way it celebrates and unites people, like music”.

“It’s wonderful to see all everyone so emotive, and expressive with their emotions,” they continued. “This makes us happy. We also send special love to all the people from the Ivory Coast that could not get the chance to travel to see their teams play. Football should be available for everyone!”

But how will their own unity be tested tonight when the time comes Aurora’s Norway to take on Rowlands’ England in the knock-out game taking place in Miami?

Aurora said she believed that “Norway has won the hearts of the people, and I also think Norway will do very good this year, we are an underdog that you should fear!”

Meanwhile, Rowlands said he thought that England’s chances of making it through to the final were “extremely high”.

Asked about the duo’s own personal favourite football anthems, Aurora replied – without Tom’s knowledge – pointing to their now iconic viral celebration: “I think Norway’s ‘RO! RO! RO!’”

‘Come Closer’ by Tomora is out now. They’re currently spending the summer on the festival circuit, before their 2026 UK and European headline tour kicks off in October.
