The victim died from his ‘catastrophic injuries’ the next day
A food delivery driver was killed by a Range Rover driver gunning at 68mph.
Mayan Hirani, 26, smashed into Mohammed Furuk Ahmed, who was crossing the road to make his delivery in Ilford on March 16 2024, and then drove off.
Mr Ahmed died from his ‘catastrophic injuries’ in hospital the next day.
Hirani, of Grange Crescent, Chigwell, was tracked down, and he later confessed to the crime. He was tracked down with CCTV, ANPR enquiries and investigation work.
Detective Constable Tristan Hunter, who led the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr Ahmed’s family and loved ones, who continue to live with the devastating consequences of his death.
“While no sentence can undo the pain caused by Mr Ahmed’s passing, I hope this outcome provides some measure of justice for his family and demonstrates our commitment to holding dangerous drivers accountable.”
Hirani was jailed for six years and nine months.
He was also disqualified from driving for five years and must pass an extended re-test before being permitted to drive again.
