The police have closed Tower Bridge due to an emergency services incident
Tower Bridge has been closed by emergency services due to an incident late on Sunday night.
The bridge has been closed to traffic and pedestrians on July 12. It has been shut by police in both directions – the exact nature of the incident is not yet known.
A City of London Police spokesperson said just before 11pm: “Tower Bridge is currently closed to traffic and pedestrians in both directions.
“Please use alternative routes.”
The closure comes after protestors took stance on the iconic London landmark earlier on Sunday.
Activists were hanging a banner and Palestinian flag from Tower Bridge calling for urgent action to save Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the Palestinian doctor who has been held in Israeli custody for over 530 days.
Dr Hussam was detained after Israeli forces raided Kamal Adwan Hospital, then the last functioning major hospital in North Gaza, along with other medical staff and patients.
