It’s not thought any school pupils were involved in the incident
A murder investigation has been launched after a man in his 20s was killed near a school in East London.
Police and paramedics scrambled to a stabbing on Downs Park Road in Hackney at 1.42pm on Monday, July 13. Tragically, despite the best efforts of the London Ambulance Service, a man in his ‘late 20s’ died at the scene.
His next of kin has been informed. A murder investigation has been launched, but no arrests have been made at this ‘early’ stage of the probe, the Met added.
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, from the force’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “Our investigation remains in the early stages and officers are working at pace to identify those responsible.
“Police will remain in the area overnight as our enquiries continue and I encourage anyone with any information to contact us.”
The alleged murder reportedly took place in broad daylight near Mossbourne Community Academy, a secondary school and sixth form, and Hackney Downs Park. Detective Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke said there continues to be a large police presence in the area.
Det Ch Supt Clarke added: “We understand that this incident occurred close to a school in broad daylight which will be hugely concerning for local residents.
“We don’t believe this to involve any pupils at the school and are treating this as an isolated incident.
“We will continue to update the community when we can.”
