No arrests have been made so far
A cyclist remains in a critical condition one week after he was struck by a car in Croydon. Police rushed to the junction of Scarbrook Road and Wandle Road shortly after midnight in the early hours of Friday, July 10.
The 39-year-old man was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition, where he remains. The Metropolitan Police said the driver stopped at the scene and is assisting their investigation. No one has been arrested in relation to the crash so far.
Officers have since mistakenly put up witness appeal boards in Croydon stating the cyclist died from his injuries as the information on the boards referred to a “fatal collision”, but the Met has confirmed to MyLondon that this was an error. It has been confirmed the boards are being corrected and officers are “making enquiries to understand how this error has occurred”.
The force is asking anyone who has information about the crash to get in touch. A spokesperson said last week: “At 12.05am on Friday, July 10, officers were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a cyclist at the junction of Scarbrook Road and Wandle Road, Croydon.
“The cyclist, aged 39, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. He remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries. His next-of-kin have been informed.
“The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting officers from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit with their enquiries. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage of the incident is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 3789/10JUL26.”
