The World Cup is still just about ongoing, some schools haven’t broken up for summer holidays yet and we’re in what feels like a continuous loop of heatwaves, but for some thoughts are already turning to Christmas. Yes, you did read that correctly.
The date for a German Christmas market in a commuter town just 30 minutes out of London into Surrey has been announced while we’re still in July. The Guildhall on Guildford High Street will be transformed into a festive market on Sunday, November 29, offering visitors a warm and seasonal shopping experience.
The free-entry event will take place from 11am to 3pm and is open to everyone. Visitors can enjoy traditional Glühwein and German bakery favourites, try their luck on the Tombola, and browse a festive selection of Christmas gifts, toys and books, as reported by sister site Surrey Live.
The German Christmas Mini Market is organised annually by Guildford Twinning Association to ceebrate the friendship and civic ties with Freiburg im Breisgau. Guildford Twinning Association chair, Barbara Ford said: “Now in its 21st year, the German Christmas Mini Market is a much-loved tradition made possible by dedicated volunteers.
“Every penny raised helps support cultural, sporting and educational exchanges between Guildford and Freiburg, as well as free public events that build understanding and celebrate our friendship.”
Guildford is easy to reach from London. It takes just 32 minutes on the train from London Waterloo on South Western Railway services and is a straight forward drive down the M25 and A3 from South and West London.
