Three Lions’ fans can watch England take on Spain a little closer to home
The World Cup is over, and while most of England returns to a semblance of everyday life, many Three Lions fans will be left wondering what might have been.
The “what ifs” of England’s decisive semi-final against Argentina, which saw hopes dashed after a riveting campaign over a long, hot and memorable summer, will be pondered by pundits and pub philosophers for the next four years.
Luckily, England fans can size up their chances of future FIFA success as England plays World Cup champions Spain at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, September 26, in the UEFA Nations League.
The first wave of tickets will become available for members of the England Supporters Travel Club, from midday on Monday, August 3, to Thursday, August 6.
The England + sale opens at midday on Friday, August 7, to Wednesday, August 12, and members also receive priority access for home tickets. The general sale opens from 12pm on Thursday August 13.
The World Cup came to an end on Sunday evening with Spain securing their second men’s title with a 1-0 victory over Argentina.
Faltering Argentina failed to muster a shot across 90 minutes and only Emiliano Martinez’s heroics kept Spain at bay, with the goalkeeper preventing teenager Lamine Yamal from scoring a match-winning free-kick. The reigning champions lost Enzo Fernandez to a brainless second yellow card just before extra time, with Lionel Scaloni’s lacklustre side continuing to stumble against Luis de la Fuente’s classy, ball-playing outfit.
Spain kept knocking at the door and substitute Torres eventually slammed home at the start of the second period of extra time.
