The accused had previously been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and had been in custody, but he was arrested again following Mr Mackin’s death.
He is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Two other men, aged 40 and 32, who were arrested earlier in the week on suspicion of attempted murder have both been released unconditionally.
Police have asked the public to avoid speculation on the circumstances around this attack, which they say is upsetting for the family and friends and could have a detrimental impact on the investigation.
