The American was visiting the UK with his friend who took him to an Angel pub for his first ever pub experience – and he left with a completely different opinion
An American man visiting the UK enjoyed his first ever pub lunch – and had plenty to say about the humble scotch egg.
Kalani Smith, famously known as Kalani Ghost Hunter on social media, loves taking his American friends from back home to try new experiences here in the UK. The foodie, originally from Tennessee, is currently in London where he took his filmmaker pal Tanner Wiseman to try some good pub grub. The pair ventured to Angel for the Pig and Butcher as Tanner had never experienced British pub food until this very moment.
In a TikTok post with his 3.3million followers, Kalani was on a hunt to change the reality star’s opinion as he previously called British food “bland” – but all that was about to change.
Kalani said: “Now if you saw the video before he came over, he said he’s heard the food might be a little bland. So today we’re at the Pig and Butcher who do some incredible food.”
Speaking about the pub, he told viewers: “They actually have a team of people that go out every morning to find the fruit and veg and also have a butcher shop that chops up their locally sourced beef in house. So let’s go and try it out.”
First up on the menu was the humble scotch egg. Showing off the delightful dish on his fork, Kalani gushed it was “nice crispy outside” before he took a bite.
Then as the pair indulge in the egg, Tanner said: “Okay. That’s really good,” before he later confirmed: “I do like the crunch of the meat and it’s seasoned really well.”
Kalani, who wasn’t letting his friend’s previous comments go, then turned to Tanner and asked: “Bland food?” To which he replied: “I’m wrong.”
Next up for them was a full table of food which included the lamb pie, triple cooked beef fat chips, potatoes with garlic and a 45-day aged sirloin with peppercorn sauce.
Discussing all the meals on the table, Kalani admitted: “First thing I will say just from my perspective but everything looks incredibly fresh, vibrant colours, green, a lot of stuff going on here.”
Tanner told his friend he “nailed it” as everything “looks so good”.
After taking a bite of the lamb pie first, Tanner was nearly speechless as he just said: “Yeah.” Kalani thought it was “incredibly tender” with “nice pastry”.
The pair kept gushing over the flavours before Kalani made a mention of the “bland” remark again where Tanner appeared taken aback by his previous comments and assured it was all delicious.
Now it was time for the dry-aged steak which came with peppercorn sauce. Trying the meat, Tanner replied: “Hmmm yum. Yup they did that right,” all in the time that Kalani appeared speechless by it.
Finally, the pair were set to order Tanner’s first sticky toffee pudding but instead the video ended on his final verdict. Kalani told his friend: “You came here expecting bland food.”
And Tanner was forced to eat his words as he responded: “Wasn’t what I was expecting, what I heard however was wrong. That was all super good.”
The video ended with Kalani who mentioned the Project Fear star had tried lamb for the first time in his life.
