Essex Police has asked members of the public to avoid the area wherever possible
A man has died after getting into difficulty while swimming off the coast at a beach in Essex – just over a week after a mother and daughter from Ilford died in similar circumstances at a nearby spot.
Emergency services were alerted to the beach, at Frinton-on-Sea, shortly after 2.10pm on Tuesday (July 28), when paramedics reported that the man had encountered trouble in the water near The Esplanade.
Despite being brought ashore and receiving urgent treatment, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed. Police and other emergency personnel remain in attendance and have urged the public to avoid the area while the response continues, Essex Live reports.
“(The man’s) family have been informed and are being supported by our officers. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time,” a spokesperson for Essex Police confirmed in a statement.
“We would ask members of the public to avoid the area wherever possible to allow emergency services to carry out their work safely and effectively.”
In similarly tragic circumstances, on July 22, Shelina Rahman, 41, and her daughter Sameeha, 15, drowned after getting into difficulty in the water, alongside four other family members, at West Mersea beach.
Essex Police added that a seven-year-old boy, later named as Musa Ahmed, was also flown to hospital after being injured in the incident. Musa’s family has since confirmed that he died “in a state of ease and peace” at the Royal London Hospital on Tuesday evening.
