Wonder Man will not be returning for season 2, despite Marvel giving it the green light back in March.
The series, created by Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton and Hawkeye writer Andrew Guest, follows Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), a struggling actor with secret superpowers, as he auditions for the lead role in a superhero movie. He crosses paths with Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley), and the two strike up an unlikely (and rather chaotic) friendship. It also garnered around 550 million minutes watched in its first 10 days on Disney Plus, and was officially renewed for a second season back in March.
According to Variety, a writer’s room was never opened despite the renewal. On a brighter note, the report also states that “the characters featured in the series could still appear in other Marvel projects in the future.” The series currently sits at a Rotten Tomatoes score of 91%, and a rather impressive audience rating of 88%.

It took a bit for the show to get off the ground, as 2023 strikes delayed production and poorly received audience test screenings called for reshoots. Cretton and Guest even gushed about their potential season 2 plans just last month.
If you haven’t seen Wonder Man, I recommend giving it a watch on Disney Plus. If you liked the different, refreshing creative direction that Prime Video took with Spider-Noir, you’ll love the weirdness of Wonder Man. It’s a bright spot on the Marvel timeline, and I’m sad to see it go.
