Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey have brought the biggest collective box office in history.
The $355 million domestic opening of Spider-Man: Brand New Day combined with The Odyssey’s $51 million in its third weekend to bring the overall total to roughly $430 million, according to Variety.
This figure overtakes the $402 million total from the opening weekend of Avengers: Endgame, which previously held the record for top weekend.
The Spider-Man MCU series has already demonstrated its ability to draw a big audience with Spider-Man: No Way Home, which opened to $260 million domestic – the second biggest domestic opening weekend ever – and $600 million worldwide back in December 2021.
But Brand New Day, which stars Tom Holland in his fourth solo outing as Spidey, as well as Zendaya, Sadie Sink and Jon Bernthal, has completely exceeded expectations for the franchise, opening to strong critical acclaim and $927 million worldwide at the box office.
The film may be on its way to eventually surpassing $2 billion at the global box office.
The Odyssey continues to exceed expectations too, raking in $911 million worldwide after three weekends in cinemas.
The movie, which is based on the ancient Greek epic poem by Homer and stars the likes of Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway and Lupita Nyong’o, is predicted to cross the billion-dollar mark.
The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day are out now in cinemas.
