With Ted Lasso season 4 premiering on Apple TV+ on August 5 2026, one first-time viewer has shared their experience watching the beloved comedy series and the reason new audiences should start streaming now
Some television series have a rare quality about them – they grab you from the very first episode and never let go. Within just a few episodes, they become a comfort show, the kind you return to on a rainy evening or when you simply need cheering up.
Ted Lasso is one such series, and with its fourth season arriving today (August 5), one first-time viewer has shared his verdict on the programme after watching it for the first time.
The TV series, which first landed on Apple TV+ during the height of coronavirus back in 2020, quickly established itself as the streaming platform’s flagship offering and has since earned a devoted global following.
The series has garnered widespread critical acclaim, with particular praise for its performances from Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Phil Dunster, Brett Goldstein, Nick Mohammed, and Juno Temple, alongside its humour, writing, themes, and uplifting tone. Many would argue the programme arrived at precisely the right moment during a period of isolation and uncertainty.
Ted Lasso secured 20 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, making it the most nominated first-season comedy in the awards’ history.
For the uninitiated, the programme follows Ted Lasso, an American college football coach recruited to manage an English football team whose owner secretly hopes his lack of experience will result in failure. Lasso’s down-to-earth, optimistic management style, however, proves surprisingly effective.
Despite having little interest in football, one viewer decided to give the programme a chance after hearing positive reviews.
After watching, he reluctantly admitted he found the show remarkable.
Writing in the R/TedLasso community on Reddit, the commenter said: “I don’t even really care about soccer, but I’d heard good things about Ted Lasso, so when I got 2 free months of Apple TV I saw it and put it on with no hesitation.
“What a show. The writers and directors had a hit with this one. only on episode seven, but so far every single episode has made me laugh out loud – guffaw even – and yet has also managed to bring me to tears.
“What a wholesome and beautiful reminder that the most important thing in the world is not to be the best, not to be the smartest, not to be the strongest… just to be kind.
“It’s truly inspirational.”
Viewers flocked to the comments section to share their opinions on the show, the vast majority of which were overwhelmingly positive.
One person said: “No, Ted found you right when you needed him.”
A second said: “If you haven’t yet, check out Shrinking. Brett Goldstein writes for and appears in that as well.”
A third said: “That was me too. I resisted because who needs another story about sports. Long since my 2 months was up, I’m still a subscriber, obsessed with the world cup and have lost count of my rewatchs, it is golden.”
A fourth added: “Ted Lasso is not about football, it’s about helping young men become the best versions of themselves.”
What is season four of Ted Lasso about?
