London is once again set for days of scorching weather
London is once again set for scorching weather this week – with one day in particular tipped to reach temperatures of 36C or higher, forecasters have said.
The Met Office is considering issuing rare heat warnings later this week, as London and southeast England continues to bake in an unprecedented period of dry, hot weather.
Monday will be slightly cooler than recent weeks with a maximum temperature of around 27C, while temperatures will even dip slightly on Tuesday to around 26C.
But things will heat up on Wednesday as temperatures jump several degrees to a peak of around 30C. The hottest day of the week promises to be Thursday, August 13, when temperatures will hit the mid thirties, possibly even as high as 36C.
“We’ll probably see highs reaching the mid-30s quite widely on Wednesday, and indeed on Thursday too for England and Wales,” Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan said.
“On Wednesday, probably the Midlands, maybe a little bit further south, the M4 corridor, west of London, up towards the Midlands, is where we might have a small chance of reaching 36C in one or two spots.
“But Thursday at this stage looks the most likely hottest day of the week. So 36C is a fairly reasonable probability locally on Thursday and there’s a small chance it could get even higher than that.”
Friday will also be a hot day, with BBC Weather forecasting climes of around 33C, before temperatures drop off once again at the weekend.

- Friday, August 14: Sunny intervals and light winds, with mercury rising to 33C.
- Saturday, August 15: Sunny and a gentle breeze, with a peak of 27C.
- Sunday, August 16: Gentle sunshine and light winds, with a peak of 24C.
