Fans who signed up for the new priority England+ membership were given early access which caused the early sell out
Football fans reacted with dismay as tickets for England’s Wembley match against World Cup winners Spain were completely sold out in the first wave to England+ Priority members before a general sale.
The special sale opened on Friday, August 7, and allowed members who had paid £20 for membership early access to tickets. But within a day, tickets for the event had been completely sold out in the Priority sale.
The Three Lions posted on X: “See you at Wembley Stadium soon. All available tickets for our UEFA Nations League match vs Spain have sold out in our first ever England+ Priority window.”
Fans eager to see England perform against Spain on Saturday, September 26, in the UEFA Nations League, were left disappointed at the absence of a general sale, which had been scheduled to open on Thursday.
One fan wrote online: “Disgusting the way football has gone. Having to pay just for the OPPORTUNITY to buy tickets.”
Another added: “Bad you now have to pay to join a queue to get tickets. Another paywall.”
A third wrote: “Seems really awful not to have saved some allocation for general sale, expecting people to pay £20 to even have access to them is disgraceful imo. why advertise a general sale window at all?”
Yet another added: “This is absolutely disgraceful. ‘Priority’ is basically paying to join a queue to but tickets. Game is gone.”
Some fans claimed resell tickets are appearing online despite Priority rules banning tickets from being used by other parties, which they dubbed “an absolute joke”.
But others defended the Priority scheme.
One fan wrote: “Mate it is £20 a year for the membership. With that you can buy up to 6 tickets. It’s just a way to 1 combat scalpers, as tickets bought under a single membership cannot be resold. And overall it was literally £50 for a ticket. Much better then it being £200 per ticket.”
Another said: “So excited I got mine and they’re great seats. Worth the £20 tbf.”
