The British Transport Police has released a statement
A person has died after falling on the London Underground tracks in Chelsea at rush hour this morning (August 19). Emergency services were called to the area around Sloane Square station shortly before 7.45am following reports of a casualty on the line.
The injured person was declared dead at the scene. Their age and gender has not been released by the British Transport Police (BTP).
In a statement, the force said enquiries into the circumstances leading up to the death are ongoing. Transport for London has suspended the entire Circle line whilst emergency crews deal with the incident.
There is also no District line service between Earl’s Court and Whitechapel, and severe delays on the rest of the line. Passengers are being urged to avoid the line where possible.
Additionally, westbound Hammersmith and City line trains were unable to run between Edgware Road and Barking but are now running with severe delays. Tickets are being accepted on London Buses, the DLR, Elizabeth line, Liberty line, C2C and South Western Railway.
A BTP spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the line near Sloane Square Underground station at 7.44am today (19 August) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances leading up to their death.
