The MasterChef: The Professionals judge has highly praised a neighbourhood Italian restaurant in South London
Legendary chef Marcus Wareing has lauded his new favourite London restaurant for ‘making better risotto than he does’. The chef, who has held multiple Michelin stars throughout his career, gave a rare review of Rosina restaurant to his 344,000 Instagram followers after being wowed when he ate there with his wife.
Rosina, on Bellevue Road near Wandsworth Common, opened on June 29 and is run by Michelin-starred chef Adam Byatt who started his career in the kitchens of Claridge’s aged just 16. It is the site where Brinkley’s used to be and Adam’s menu is inspired by the ‘love I have for Italian cuisine’.
Marcus visited the restaurant earlier this month and shared his review. Speaking to his Instagram followers, he said: “I don’t do many restaurant reviews ever, in fact I don’t do them at all, but this particular dining experience I have to shout out.
“This is a dinner that I’ve just had in Wandsworth, on Trinity Road, a road I used to live very close to 10-11 years ago, I lived here for many, many years.”
He continued: “There’s a new kid on the block, well he’s not a kid, his name’s Adam Byatt, he’s an incredible chef and he’s just opened a restaurant,” before switching the selfie-mode camera to the restaurant an adding: “It’s called Rosina, an Italian restaurant and I’ve just had dinner here.”
Marcus then lists the things he loved about the restaurant, including ‘the wine, the salads, the service’ before giving special praise to the ‘attention to detail’. He described having one if the ‘best’ turbot dishes he’s ever had, cooked on the bone with ‘beautiful capers and beautifully cooked seasoned spinach’. It is priced at £38 on the menu.
Marcus also called the Tiramisu, costing £7, ‘exceptional’ but the highlight was the risotto, costing £20, his wife ordered. He said: “I’ve been making risotto at home for many, many, many years and I’d say that mine has always been the very best but I’ve just tasted a risotto that I would say is actually better than mine and I don’t say that very lightly.”
It’s no surprise Marcus is so fond of the Italian neighbourhood restaurant, as it boasts a 4.8 of 5 star rating on Google. “Incredible meal. Faultless service. Just sad I couldn’t try the whole menu. Very average pricing for a London dinner. Interesting, largely Italian wine list starting around £35,” one person raved.
And a second said: “Just enjoyed a delightful Sunday lunch at Rosina. Friendly and faultless service from Faye. A beautiful dining room, which is light and airy. Every item on the menu looked delicious.”
While a third penned: “Excellent food and warm, attentive service from all the staff. Brought my folks to celebrate my mother’s birthday, and they absolutely loved it. We’ll be back.”
