EXCLUSIVE: Trigger Point star Danny Markham has opened up about a life-or-death situation he stumbled across at a London Underground station
Trigger Point star Eric Shango has bravely spoken out about a near-tragic incident which left him fearing for his life.
The popular ITV crime drama is due to return, as Vicky McClure’s Lana Washington and her bomb defusal unit take on a new case as they seek to keep the people of London safe.
The team’s new challenge is said to be “unprecedented,” with Lana noting in the show’s latest trailer that they seem to know how her team works. The scale of the attacks is made even clearer by one chief, who says they’re the “biggest” threat London has faced.
Actor Eric Shango has reprised his role as bomb disposal expert Danny Markham, who works alongside Lana, as the team tries to save lives in the capital.
However, away from the ITV drama, Eric has spoken out for the first time about a real-life, near-death experience he recently faced that mirrored the terror his on-screen character feels.
In an exclusive chat with MyLondon at a Trigger Point press event, Eric explained he felt “fear” while saving a man’s life who was suicidal at a London Tube Station.
“There was actually a situation earlier this year, this is the first time I’m ever talking about it”, he said.
“Unfortunately, a man got to his lowest, and he was about to take his own life, and he stood up on a railway bridge.
“We drove past him, and he caught the corner of my eye. I thought to myself ‘Is that what I thought it was?’.
Someone was about to jump. I was in the passenger seat of my friend’s car and literally shouted at them to turn back around.”
Eric explained he could see a figure of a person ready to jump to their death at any given moment, and rather than ignore the incident, his instinct told him to save the person, whose name has not been disclosed, in a heroic moment.
He added: “A man was still stood there contemplating taking his own life. I remember feeling so stuck full of fear because maybe I was a second too late, he might, or if I say the wrong thing, he could.
“But the fear took over me at one point, and I just ignored all of it, and I literally went and yanked him off the bridge and then just grabbed him. I think that is the most fearful I’ve ever felt because of how close it came.”
Trigger Point returns to ITV and ITVX on Sunday, August 30
