A coastal walk with ‘beautiful views all around’ comes highly recommended and is less than an hour’s journey on the train from London St. Pancras International
Exercise-loving Londoners have been urged to check out a stunning walking spot that boasts stunning views and a pretty beach – and it is just a 53-minute train journey from the capital. The serene spot in Kent was highlighted by travel blogger, Journey Joy on TikTok.
“Didn’t expect the walk down to the beach to be this pretty,” they admitted in a video from the town’s western cliff top. Surrounded by tropical-looking plants and trees you’d expect to see on the continent, Journey Joy began their descent. “Zig-zagging our way towards the sea with beautiful views all around,” they continued.
The walk in question can be found in Folkestone, which can be reached via a direct Southeastern train from St. Pancras International.
The walk, which has the not-so-inventive name of The Zig Zag Path, is also showcased on Discover Britain’s Towns.
“The Zig Zag walk in Folkestone is a fantastic scenic walk placed between the Leas Cliff Hall and the Band Stand,” their website states. “It offers wonderful coastal views and consists of different paths with caves and grottoes leading down to the seafront and the Lower Leas Coastal Park.”
Discover Britain’s Towns continues: “Originally built in the 1800s to ferry bath chairs between The Leas and the beach, The Zig Zag path has been restored beyond its original beauty as part of the Award Winning Coastal Park Development.”
Meanwhile, the attraction boasts a TripAdvisor rating of 4.3 out of five following 83 reviews.
“The path actually Zag-zigs!” one recent walker declared. “Strenuous, but plenty of resting points with great views. Don’t forget to check out the signpost at the top of the path. A photo-op if I ever saw one.”
A second wrote: “Quickest way to get to the beach if you are coming from the train station. Beautiful view and nice walk. But get ready, your way up will not be as easy as your way down.”
While a third shared: “Really interesting and beautiful however very steep! And a long walk to the beach. Absolutely stunning though. Beautiful photographs.”
And writing in response to Journey Joy, a TikTok user similarly confessed: “The zigzag path is a beautiful walk, but not so much on way back up!”
To which Journey Joy concurred: “Haha absolutely! Going down is a dream… coming back up is a completely different story.”
