This cafe is the perfect location for your plane loving children – and there’s also a delicious menu to enjoy. It’s located just outside the M25 and will take about an hour or so to drive
It’s not always easy finding a way to entertain the kids. Of course now that September is in full swing, many parents will be preoccupied with the back to school rush.
That said, if you have little ones under the age of four, then this spot is perfect for them. According to locals, the cafe is a “hidden gem” and it lets visitors take in the sights of the helicopters and planes from a near distance. It’s just over an hour away by car, located just outside the M25, so it’s fairly close if you’re travelling from London.
Posting on Instagram, the account, Mums of Surrey, told their 21,800 followers to check out the Hangar 9 cafe, located in Redhill, Surrey.
Speaking about the cafe, it said: “[It’s] a hidden gem and somewhere you should definitely visit this summer if your little ones love planes and helicopters.
“Watch the planes take-off and land and enjoy a delicious smoothie or meal! They have a lovely kids menu. There is free allocated parking for the cafe in allocated spaces on weekdays and open aerodrome parking on weekends and bank holidays.”
The social media post also told fans to check a flight tracker website to see when airplanes are coming and going. It’s likely you won’t see aircrafts taking-off every minute like a standard airport.
Located in Redhill, near Reigate in Surrey, the cafe is open 7 days a week, from 8am to 5pm. Although in winter it may shut at 4pm.
Hangar 9 is one of the Redhill Aerodrome’s iconic structures. It began operations in 1934, housing the club and providing a base for early aviation activities.
On the cafe’s website, it said: “Amid this rich tapestry of aviation history lies our cafe, situated in the historic Hangar 9. Our cafe is more than just a place to enjoy a meal; it is a tribute to the legacy of Redhill Aerodrome and a celebration of its enduring spirit.
“We specialise in serving a delicious breakfast menu and exceptional coffee, creating a welcoming haven for pilots, aviation enthusiasts, and the local community.”
Since the location was shared by the Surrey locals, it garnered a lot of attention. One said: “Definitely have to try this for my boy – he loves planes.” Another added: “One of our favourite spots! Such an easy, low cost activity that the kids will love!”
Meanwhile someone else admitted: “What?! I used to love this place, had no idea that it’s open again! THAT’S why I love Instagram. Thanks for sharing this.”
To get there from London, it will take around 1 hour and 20 minutes in the car. By public transport, it’s slightly quicker and will take 30-40 minutes via Thameslink.
