A man who bought the ‘most expensive Too Good To Go bag’ London has has issued his verdict on what he got inside his mystery bag – and his opinion was brutal

Too Good To Go bags can be a fantastic way to scoop up food for cheap, but they’re not always worth it. Whether you’re a business looking to shift some stock that would otherwise be thrown away, or a customer eager to snag a bargain, Too Good To Go mystery bags are a genius invention made to reduce waste.

They allow businesses to bag up food that is going to waste and sell it for a fraction of the price to customers, meaning less food gets wasted, and everyone is happy. The downside to the mystery bags, however, is that you never know what you’re going to get.

Shoppers pay a small fee, usually a couple of quid, for a bag of miscellaneous items, and it’s pure luck whether you end up with a great haul or a selection of items that you really don’t want. One man on social media recently shared his experience with buying the “most expensive” Too Good To Go bag he could find in London, which cost him a whopping £24 and came from Venchi, a gourmet Italian chocolate shop.

The man, named Bryce, filmed himself entering the shop and picking up his order, which came in one highly decorative gift bag. Even before he had looked inside, the man said he “thought it was going to be bigger”, but he remained optimistic that it would be filled with goodies.

Once he was back at home, he said: “This has got to be one of the craziest Too Good To Go bags I have ever had. It’s from Venchi and it cost me £24. Inside is supposed to be £73 worth of chocolate. I don’t think I’ve ever seen £73 worth of chocolate in front of me before, so I’m very excited for this.”

Bryce then opened up his bag and pulled out the first item inside, which was a mixed bag of chocolates. He said the bag contained some mini Easter eggs as well as some tiramisu-flavoured chocolates, among other things.

Next, he pulled out a “huge” green cylinder, which contained a white chocolate and pistachio Easter egg. Bryce filmed and uploaded the video in late August, and seemingly received Easter chocolate as it was close to its sell-by date.

However, upon attempting to fish out his third item, Bryce came to a shocking realisation – there was nothing else in his bag.

His two-word response said everything, as he exclaimed: “That’s it?”

The man continued: “There’s no way that’s £73. A small bag of chocolates like this from Venchi is anywhere from £10 to £15. We’re going to call it £10 because it’s an Easter range and it’s nowhere near Easter.

“The giant Easter egg they were selling for £45. So in total, that’s only £55 worth of chocolate, and we were supposed to get £73. What do you guys think, was this worth £24?”

In the comments of his video, Bryce also claimed that the Easter egg had actually been discounted in store after Easter for £27.50, meaning that the value of his bag was actually closer to £37 – which is still more than the £24 he paid for it, but much less than the £73 value he thought he was getting.

Commenters on the post were split on the value of the bag. Some said it would be their “dream” to get a Too Good To Go bag filled with chocolate, while others claimed that “posh” chocolate isn’t their cup of tea, no matter what the price is.

One person said: “The chocolate at Venchi is bomb. I once treated myself to a 40g chocolate bar made of wild cocoa. It cost me around 6 Euros around 20 years ago. So you got a steal.”

Another added: “My dream To Good To Go bag!”

However, someone else disagreed, writing: “None of the artisan chocolates are worth the money. But nice that you tried!”

Venchi has been contacted for comment.
